For the second time in 2023, UNIC Manama delivered a lecture to MoI staffers to raise awareness around the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The United Nations Information Centre for the Gulf Countries (UNIC Manama), in partnership with Bahrain’s Ministry of Interior (MoI), delivered on 16 November a lecture on the Sustainable Development Goals at the Royal Police Academy in Jaw.
At the lecture, UNIC Manama Director Ahmed Ben Lassoued introduced the progress made halfway through Agenda 2030. Ben Lassoued highlighted some of the challenges that have hampered progress such as COVID-19. He noted that while the pandemic negatively impacted many goals, it also presented opportunities.
Ben Lassoued referred to the six key transitions announced ahead of the SDG summit in September 2023, which included food systems, energy access and affordability, digital connectivity, education, jobs and social protection, in addition to climate change, biodiversity loss and pollution.
Commenting on the lecture, he said: “Our ongoing partnership with MoI and other national stakeholders to raise awareness about the SDGs and the role of the UN in Bahrain forms a key part of UNIC Manama mandate. It is through such opportunities that we get to interact with different groups and engage in informative discussions on the future of our world.”
Nearly 300 MoI employees from various directorates attended the lecture, including senior officials and junior staffers.
UNIC Manama is a field office of the United Nations Department of Global Communications. It serves the Kingdom of Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, and the State of Qatar.
The Centre works closely with the United Nations Country Team (UNCT) in the Kingdom of Bahrain and is the country's principal source of information on the United Nations.
