UNDP and University of Bahrain Launch Groundbreaking SDGs Academic Programme

In collaboration with the University of Bahrain (UOB), UNDP has launched a pioneering academic programme integrating Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into university curricula. This unique initiative offers students the opportunity to engage with sustainable development concepts in a structured academic setting.

The program introduces SDG-focused content into English courses for first-year students, alongside specialised courses in sciences and law. Students completing these courses will receive dual certifications from UOB and UNDP, equipping them with the knowledge and skills needed to tackle global sustainability challenges and contribute to Bahrain’s sustainable development agenda.

Speaking at the launch event, Mrs. Jehan AlMurbati, UNDP Bahrain Head of Office a.i., highlighted the significance of this collaboration, emphasising the programme’s role in empowering youth as agents of change. She noted that integrating SDGs into higher education not only provides theoretical knowledge but also builds practical capacities for impactful action. She praised the strong partnership between UNDP and UOB, which reflects their shared commitment to advancing innovation and sustainability in the Kingdom.

Dr. Fuad Mohammed Alansari, President of UOB, echoed these sentiments, describing the program as a vital step in fostering human capital development and addressing pressing global issues. He emphasised the university’s dedication to preparing students to innovate solutions that align with the SDGs, ensuring that the program equips them to face complex challenges such as climate change and social inequalities.

This collaboration aligns with Bahrain’s commitment to innovation and sustainable development, further cementing the University of Bahrain’s reputation as a leading institution in the region. By embedding the SDGs into its curriculum, UOB is setting a benchmark for academic institutions across the Gulf, fostering a new generation of leaders capable of driving transformative action.
